Your privacy, in plain language
You are trusting us with details about one of the most personal seasons of your life. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who else can see it, and how to have it removed. No dense legal language — if something here isn’t clear, ask and we’ll explain it.
Mycelia Birth Co. is a sole proprietorship based in Pennsylvania, United States. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Mycelia Birth Co., and “the site” means myceliabirth.com.
In-person support is offered locally. Virtual support may be offered to families in other states and, in some cases, other countries. Wherever you are, your information is handled the way this page describes.
The short version
- We only collect what you choose to send us, plus the ordinary technical records any website keeps.
- We do not sell your information, share it with data brokers, or run advertising or tracking pixels.
- The site sets no cookies, and our analytics cannot identify you or follow you to other websites.
- You can ask us to delete everything we hold about you at any time, and we will.
What you send us
The contact form on this site asks for:
- Your name and email address — required, so we can reply.
- A phone number — optional.
- Which service you’re interested in — optional.
- A due date or birth date — optional.
- Whatever you choose to write in the message box.
Everything except your name and email is genuinely optional. The message box is free text, so what ends up in it is entirely your choice — please share only what feels comfortable at a first contact.
If you book an introductory call, that booking is handled by Cal.com and you enter your details there. If you email or message us directly, we hold that correspondence in the ordinary way.
What the site collects on its own
Like every website, this one sits behind a web host that keeps short-lived technical records of requests — the IP address a request came from, the browser and device type, the page requested, and the time. Our host, Cloudflare, uses these to serve pages and to block attacks and spam. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not connect them to your enquiry.
We use Cloudflare’s analytics to understand how the site is being used — how many people visit, which pages get read, roughly which country visitors come from, what referred them, and what browser and device they used. We see this as aggregate numbers, not as individuals.
It is worth being specific about what this does not do, because most website analytics do all of it: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, does not follow you to other websites, does not build a profile of you, and is not connected to any advertising network. There is no Google Analytics here, and there are no advertising or social media tracking pixels anywhere on this site. Nothing we measure is linked to an enquiry you send us.
If we ever add anything that tracks more than this, we will update this page before switching it on, and say plainly what was added.
What is stored on your device
The site sets no cookies.
Two small things are saved in your own browser and never sent to us:
- A cached copy of pages you’ve visited, so the site still works if your connection drops mid-visit.
- A single note recording that you’ve already met the frog hiding on the site, so he doesn’t introduce himself twice.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes both. Neither contains anything personal.
Who else can see your information
We use a small number of outside services to run the business. Each one only receives what it needs, and none of them are permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and provides the anti-spam check on the contact form.
- Resend — delivers the contact form to our inbox and sends your confirmation email.
- Google — our business email is a Google account, so enquiries you send us are stored there.
- Cal.com — runs the introductory call booking, if you use it.
- Google Fonts — the site’s typeface is currently served by Google, which means Google sees the IP address of anyone loading a page. We are in the process of moving this onto our own domain so it stops happening.
We may also share information where we are legally required to — a lawful request from a court or regulator, for instance — or where it is genuinely necessary to protect someone’s safety. That has never happened, and if it ever did we would tell you unless prohibited from doing so.
We have never sold personal information and we never will.
How long we keep things
- Enquiries that don’t become work — deleted within twelve months of your last message to us.
- Client records — kept for the length of our working relationship and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that we can answer questions and meet tax and insurance obligations.
- Anything you ask us to delete — removed promptly, whichever of the above it falls under.
If you are outside the United States
We are a US business, and the services we rely on to run the site and our email are US-based. If you contact us or book a call from another country, your information will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, under US law — which may offer different protections from those where you live.
If you are in the UK or the European Union, the rights described below are ones you have under the UK GDPR and the GDPR. We honour them for everyone regardless.
Your choices
Whatever state or country you live in, and whether or not the law requires it of us, you can:
- Ask what information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that’s wrong.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Ask us to stop contacting you.
Email contact@myceliabirth.com and we’ll take care of it. We won’t ask you why, and it will never affect the care you receive.
A note about health information
Doula support is non-clinical. We are not a healthcare provider, and we are not a “covered entity” under HIPAA — so information you share with us is not protected health information in the legal sense, even when it is deeply personal. We treat it with real care regardless, and hold it in confidence as a matter of professional ethics. But we’d rather you know exactly where you stand than assume a protection that isn’t there.
Nothing on this site is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it does not replace care from your midwife, physician, or lactation consultant. Doula support works alongside your medical team, never in place of it.
Security
The site is served entirely over an encrypted connection, and form submissions are checked for spam before they reach us. Our accounts are protected with strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication. No system is perfect, and we won’t claim otherwise — but if information you sent us were ever exposed, we would tell you directly and quickly.
Children
Our services are for adults and families, and this site is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. Of course, families tell us about their babies and children in the ordinary course of care — that information is held as part of your record and treated the same as everything else here.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant — a new service that receives your data, or measurement that goes beyond the aggregate numbers described above — we’ll say so plainly rather than quietly revising the text.
Getting in touch
